The Senior Women's Club of Beachwood
Recently Completed a 12 Week Exercise Course.
This course was a HealthEASE pilot program, sponsored by the Ocean County Office of Senior Services.
The participants consider the program a great success. Many thanks to Mrs. Lois Yuhasz, HealthEASE coordinator and her staff of trained volunteer peer exercise leaders. Seniors from Beachwood and surrounding communities enjoyed learning the exercises and proper breathing to enhance their quality of life. The age range for the participants was ranged from 60's to 80's.
Margie Bissinger, Registered Physical Therapist (RPT) designed the exercises that were led by volunteers; Anna Smith, assisted by Joan Duncanson and Nina Robinson.
The students learned better balance and posture to prevent falls, better breathing to move oxygen through their bodies, and gentle, non-aerobic exercises to remain flexible and strong.
Even seniors requiring canes and wheelchairs participated and did wonderfully.
Each person did the exercise at their own level, either standing or sitting, and felt better after each exercise session.
