Beachwood Police Department
IMPORTANT 9-1-1 INFORMATION
EFFECTIVE USE OF THE 9-1-1 SYSTEM:
The 9-1-1 system was established in Beachwood in 1998. The system is monitored by the Ocean County Communications Center. When a 9-1-1 call is placed, it is answered at the Ocean County Communications Center and a 9-1-1 trained telecommunicator will assist the caller with whatever emergency they may have. This call will then be dispatched to a Beachwood Police Unit.
When calling 9-1-1, try to remain calm and be sure to give your address, name, and the problem. Please speak clearly and DO NOT hang up until advised to do so by the telecommunicator.
9-1-1 IS FOR EMERGENCY USE ONLY
(DO NOT USE 9-1-1 FOR ROUTINE INFORMATIONAL CALLS OR CALLS OF A NON-EMERGENT NATURE)
Last year, we responded to over 200 false 9-1-1 calls. Once you dial 9-1-1, your address and telephone number is instantly displayed and the police are dispatched.
If you realize that you made a mistake, Don't Hang Up. Advise the operator you miss dialed. An officer will still be dispatched to verify your safety.
Remember a false 9-1-1 call takes an officer away from his other patrol duties.
In case you are wondering, a false 9-1-1 call is a violation of N.J. Criminal Law, N.J.S.A. 2C:33-3.
