Let's Enhance Megans’ Law

For nearly five years, the Borough of Beachwood has been on the forefront in the battle to protect our children by strengthening state sex offender laws. Our battle has been supported by Maureen Kanka, the mother of Megan Kanka, whose tragic death lead to the creation of Megans’ Law. With the assistance of our 9th District Legislators we continue to move forward in our efforts and are currently spear heading a petition drive to enhance Sexual Offender Legislation. We ask you to join our battle, by signing our petition.

OUR PETITION
Sexual Offender Legislation

Several child-protective initiatives are awaiting action by Legislature that would enhance the protections offered under Megan’s Law. These initiatives, sponsored by Senator Leonard T. Connors, Jr., Assemblyman Christopher J. Connors and Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf of the 9th Legislative District, and Beachwood's former Mayor Harold R. Morris would strengthen state sex offender laws by:

  1. Making it unlawful for a convicted sex offender to live within 500 feet of a school, playground or daycare center (A-639).
     
  2. Require that the potential of sex offenders to re-offend (tiering) be determined prior to their release from prison (A646).
     
  3. Establishing mandatory terms of imprisonment for sexual assaults committed against a minor (A-644).

In calling for action to be taken by the Legislative Leadership in Trenton,
